The exhibition space on the 10th floor has been transformed by six upcoming MFA graduates of Rhode Island School of Design’s [RISD] Textile Department and six entering their second year in the fall. Each student presented their individual selections of work.
Three students, Meredith Du, Aakanksha Sirothia, and Anastasia Onegina, were awarded the Sherri Donghia Award of Excellence by Sherri Donghia and Jim Druckman, President and CEO of the New York Design Center, for their outstanding textile work. The exhibit is on display in the 1stdibs gallery until June 17, 2016.
RISD’s MFA program in Textiles focuses on woven, knit and print design of fabrics used for apparel and interior applications. Working from a foundation of solid technical skills and a proficient design process, students engage in individual research to gain an understanding of design as an expression of a continually evolving culture. Students are encouraged to create design collections that break new ground while also reflecting a depth of research and well developed material and visual language.
