The New York Design Center (NYDC) has been committed to transforming and enhancing both living and working environments for over 80 years. Representing classic creations as well as avant-garde contemporary innovations, this renowned Design Center has a worldwide reputation for providing imaginative solutions to any design challenge.

Located at 200 Lexington Avenue, the NYDC is the country’s oldest furniture and design building. Built in 1926 as the New York Furniture Exchange, the NYDC was the dream of visionaries in the furniture industry.

This historic 16-story, 500,000-square-foot building designed by Ely Jacques Kahn was originally available only to furniture and department store buyers. In the late 1970s, the building began to shift its focus towards interior design and architecture; and in 1981, emerged as The New York Design Center.

Today, the NYDC houses nearly 100 showrooms representing more than 500 lines of fine, traditional, contemporary, residential and contract furniture, as well as fabric, floor covering, wall covering, kitchen and bath and decorative accessory resources.

Through partnerships with various charitable organizations, museums, design schools and the press, the NYDC has cultivated strong ties with students, consumers, designers and architects. Each year the NYDC works with these groups to provide a series of exhibitions, seminars and special events.

The NYDC was the first design center to incorporate a searchable component to its website.  NYDC.com serves as a resource for showroom news, design finds, coverage of events and other valuable industry information. 

The NYDC has put an emphasis on the introduction of new products, with its inception of “What's New, What's Next @ 200 Lex”.  This new product event, scheduled for September, reinforces the NYDC's position as the top resource for all things new in design.  These efforts allow the NYDC to remain in the forefront of New York’s design community and make it the preferred resource for the industry.
