Why use a designer?

A designer should save you time, money and aggravation, not necessarily in that order. They will direct you, and help you focus on your project because the design process is overwhelming. To look at the grand picture, then break it down from there to put in the order of importance. Design is all about the details and that's where a "real" designer shines—they don't get that pull-out closet rod, that felt lined dresser drawer or lit medicine cabinet. Everyone needs a designer.

Why shop the trade?

A good designer knows all that is available in the market to the trade. It's astounding to the average person what is out there. New showrooms, constantly new product. It is our responsibility to educate the client and open their eyes to what is available and then there is the "discount" to the trade.

What is your most valued design tip?

Look in every showroom, don't be a showroom snob, you never know what you will find!

What makes your style unique?

Every project is different because every client is different, so my style is reflective of the client! I have a passion for creating spaces with a graphic simplicity of clean lines but always with a sense of humor.

Who is your design icon and why?

Gio Ponti, his wonderful use of pattern and shape and his versatility in the use of architecture and space.

Who is your favorite fashion designer?

You can't ask me that, my partner Angel Sanchez, who is trained as an architect, but went into fashion because he didn't have the patience to wait for a building to be built.

Name three things you cannot live without.

1) Innersoles for every pair of shoes I won, so I can walk and explore and be inspired for my work.

2) To wake up every morning and have a full breakfast with my partner. The best way to start the day!

3) The constant inspiration that New York City provides me, I can roam the city and never get bored.
